Network Rail

Rhenus Lupprians is veteran of major project roll-outs on Network Rail. Rhenus Lupprians has played a lead role in the deployment of ticket vending machines and barriers across all the franchise operators. More recently Rhenus Lupprians has been involved with Network Rail power upgrade projects. The Rhenus Lupprians scope is the site delivery, lifting, plant handling and mechanical installation inside the substation of AC or DC equipment. Rhenus Lupprians has an exemplary safety record in rail by paying close attention to detailed work package plans, clear task briefing sheets and concise site briefings prior to the commencement of works. Preferring to employ people, Rhenus Lupprians can influence site behaviours through the training and development of our staff.

Project delivery experience

Rhenus Lupprians is veteran of major project roll-outs on Network Rail (formerly known as ‘Romac’ - acquired by Rhenus Lupprians in 2011).

  • Relocation of modular substations within Network Rail. For example; the decommissioning and removal of a former Thameslink substation at Grahame Park, Barnet. Refurbished offsite and re-assembled during a 27 hour engineering possession at Ardlsey, West Yorkshire – refer to attached case study for more information (customer – Siemens Mobility & Logistics Division Rail Automation).
  • Delivery & positioning of computer-based railway signalling control systems in Network Rail’s major UK signalling control centres and regional signal boxes (customer – Delta Rail).
  • Delivery & installation of marshalling cabinets and RTU’s across the 28 sites of the Docklands Light Railway – refer to attached case study for more information (customer – Siemens Mobility & Logistics Division Rail Automation).
  • Delivery and positioning of Base Transceiver Stations across the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (customer - Thales UK Limited)
  • Delivery & installation of electronic advertising screens on the Heathrow Express platforms at Terminal 5 (customer – JC Decaux).

Rhenus Lupprians has completed the extensive revenue protection roll-outs for the manufacturer’s and various Train Operating Companies (TOC’s) over the past 8 years (customers – CTS and Scheidt & Bachmann). This includes the delivery & mechanical installation of ticket vending equipment, vandal proof shutters, platform validators & gateline/barriers for following Train operating companies:

The entire Lupprians fleet, including lorry loaders, is specified to transport sensitive or high value equipment; including padded loading locking rails and air ride suspension.

Lupprians delivery vehicles are FORS Bronze accredited, the Crossrail standard adopted by TFL for all London stations.

On the scheduled date and time the selected Lupprians team will deliver:

  • Equipment
  • Modular assemblies (prepared off-site)
  • Re-locatable Equipment Buildings (REB’s)
  • Modular Principal Supply Points (PSP’s)

Lupprians operatives carry Network Rail PTS cards (personal track safety) and understand, the conditions required to establish a safe system of work, and the importance of maximising productive work within an engineering possession.

First fix

Once in the point of use, Rhenus Lupprians can complete a preliminary installation service, using customer issued design drawings, including:

  • Floor bolting equipment using anchor fixings and/or chemical fixative.
  • Providing a wall-mount solution using unistrut.
  • Ceiling mounted using Lindaptors
  • Full mechanical fit-out including: containment, ceiling try and unistrut.

Decommissioning and removal

Rhenus Lupprians can decommission and remove all obsolete equipment from site, once isolated from the power supply by others.

Installation services

  • Mechanical installation of HVAC, including tunnel ventilation systems.
  • Installation of VE panelling (in partnership with Vitrex, SA).
  • Installation of platform shelters.
  • Assembly and/or decommissioning of small steel structures.
  • Assembly and/or decommissioning of modular solutions.
  • Installation of RTU & marshalling cabinets. Verify and correlate data cable ident to schematic and termination ,including cable glanding into the marshalling cabinet. 
  • Ticket Vending Machines PED card reader door conversion and PED Hardware fitting 


Rhenus Lupprians has warehousing throughout the country; London, Milton Keynes, Manchester and Glasgow.

Rhenus Lupprians can also complete pre delivery services at these facilities prior to the delivery date:

  • Transit merging of suppliers’ equipment/material.
  • Staging, SOAK testing & final configuration of equipment in the Rhenus Lupprians configuration centre.
  • Test environments for modular assembly or testing concept prior to LUL deployment.
  • Kitting for 3rd party engineers (i.e. assembly of installer packs/kits).  

Operational administrations

  • Operational Administration
  • Site survey to establish the optimal delivery routing.
  • Production of compliant: task briefing sheets for each activity and the Work Package Plan.
  • Design of lift plans when using lorry loaders as the delivery method.

Traffic and pedestrian management

Rhenus Lupprians is accredited to setup traffic/pedestrian plans for stations in built up areas or where the track is close to the roadside.

Rhenus Lupprians is approved to manage pedestrian re-routing, parking bay suspension, lane suspension and full road closures to facilitate station access, during the delivery phase of a project.


  • Rhenus Lupprians can provide a recycling solution for all obsolete equipment.
  • Certified data removal/destruction; where required by the Data Protection Act.
  • Environmental disposal of equipment and the issuing of compliant disposal certificates.
